Dr. Tom Chiller has deep expertise in fungal diseases and threats presented by antimicrobial resistant fungi. His background from a long career at CDC, leadership role as a board member at Global Action For Fungal Infections (GAFFI), and experience in developing fungal disease surveillance systems, laboratory capacity, and policy frameworks have had a global impact: Dr. Chiller’s efforts led to inclusion of fungal pathogens in major global health platforms, including the WHO’s Global Antimicrobial Surveillance System and the first-ever WHO fungal priority pathogens list; he has also been instrumental in the identification and response to emerging resistant fungal threats such as Candida auris, azole resistant Aspergillus, and emerging highly resistant ring worm.
