Her a strong reputation for her industry knowledge and expertise with Georgia businesses\, leaders and legislators\, Maria has invigorated the life sciences sector statewide as the industry has seen dramatic growth in the last 4 years. \nBefore her time at Georgia Bio\, Maria participated in an ORISE fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control &amp; Prevention/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry in environmental investigations\, working closely with the National Center of Environmental Health in Chemical Demilitarization. Maria holds a master’s in public health from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine\, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Sweet Briar College. \nMaria serves on the boards of the CJD Foundation\, Southeast Life Sciences Association\, KSU Research Foundation\, Greater Atlanta Red Cross\, FutureVerse\, MyHealthID Global\, as immediate past chair for the Council of State Bioscience Associations\, and is a founding board member of the Coalition of State Bioscience Institutes. She has been with Georgia Bio for over 6 years and oversees workforce development efforts spanning the entire workforce pipeline- from K-12 to the current workforce. \nMegan has over a decade of experience in science education\, having taught Chemistry\, Biology and AP Biology in metro Atlanta high schools\, as well as life sciences courses at Gwinnett Technical College and Georgia State University. Therefore\, a Data Governance Handbook has been developed to guide the management and responsible use of AMR data within the AMR Dashboard Ecosystem \nOn July 24\, 2025 at 12 pm CT\, NIAMRRE will host a webinar to present the newly developed AMR Dashboard Data Governance Handbook\, and you are invited to learn more about its framework and provide feedback. As an independent investigator\, his research program has sought to understand the mechanisms underlying hyphal morphogenesis and septum formation in the model filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans as well as other members of the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium. More recent efforts have focused on characterization of adaptations that enable fungi to colonize extreme environments. The latter project includes extensive field surveys focused on the isolation and identification of extremotolerant fungi. His research program has been supported by funding from NSF\, NASA\, and the Canadian agencies NSERC\, CIHR\, and CFI. Dr. Harris also has considerable experience teaching biology and mycology courses to an audience largely composed of pre-health majors. He currently serves as a Department Chair with a research appointment. \n  \n \nDr. Karen Norris\, is professor of Infectious Diseases and the Charles H. Wheatley Chair in Immunology & Translational Biomedical Research at the Center for Vaccines and Immunology at the University of Georgia. Her laboratory has developed and is testing a broadly protective vaccine and immunotherapeutic agents to prevent and treat fungal infections\, including pulmonary aspergillosis and invasive candidiasis. She holds patents for related technologies and her work has led to the establishment of NXT Biologics\, Inc\, a company whose goal is the advancement of life-saving vaccines and immunotherapies for fungal diseases. \n  \n \nDr. Tom Chiller led the CDC’s Mycotic Diseases Branch for over two decades\, shaping the global response to life-threatening fungal infections like Candida auris and cryptococcal meningitis. From launching the FungiSurv surveillance system to securing fungal pathogens’ inclusion on WHO’s priority pathogen list\, his impact has been monumental. Dr. Chiller sits on the Member Board of Trustees for the Global Action For Fungal Infections (GAFFI). Yet\, while veterinary students receive strong technical training in AMR and AMS\, many report feeling underprepared to communicate these concepts to clients in real-world practice.   \nVeterinary school faculty and practicing veterinarians are invited to join NIAMRRE Tuesday\, March 31\, 2026\, from 11:00 AM – Noon CT for a webinar to discuss strengthening science communication for antimicrobial stewardship in veterinary medicine. This webinar introduces a newly developed set of science communication training modules designed specifically for veterinary medical students and practicing veterinarians that addresses critical gaps in AMR and AMS communication education.  Register \nParticipants will gain insight into the four interactive online modules\, which cover communication strategies in:  \n\nProfessional\, social\, and clinical settings  \n\n\nNavigating challenging AMR related conversations related conversations \n\n\nPreparing for future stewardship-focused discussions with clients  \n\nThe webinar will also highlight lessons learned from pilot testing with more than 400 students across three veterinary institutions\, offering a preview of how these tools will support current and future veterinarians in promoting responsible antibiotic use.   \nJoin us to explore how enhanced science communication training can strengthen AMR mitigation efforts and better equip the next generation of veterinarians. Register now \n  \nFeatured Speakers \n \nWill Sander\, DVM\, MPH\, DACVPM   \nDr. Sander is an Associate Professor for Preventive Medicine and Public Health and Director of the DVM/MPH Joint Degree at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.    \nHe spent 2 years at the U.S. EPA Office of Water as an AAAS Science and Technology Fellow and 3 years supporting DTRA’s Cooperative Biological Engagement Program. He was a staff veterinarian for City Wildlife and practiced at VCA small animal practices. As a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine\, he served on their Executive Board. He serves on the board of directors for the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association\, American Association for Food Safety and Public Health\, and the Veterinary Sustainability Alliance. He is the alternate Delegate for Illinois to the AVMA House of Delegates. Dr. Sander is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine\, Yale School of Public Health\, and Colby College.   \n  \n \nDr. Emmanuel Okello\, DVM\, PhD. MSc  \nDr. Emmanuel Okello is an Associate Professor of Cooperative Extension in Antimicrobial Stewardship at the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine. His research investigates the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance spread\, factors influencing antimicrobial use\, alternative infection treatments\, and the development of rapid diagnostic tools for animal food systems. He has served on various committees\, including the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Antimicrobial Stewardship\, the Africa One Health University Network\, and the National Academies of Sciences\, Engineering\, and Medicine’s Committee on Examining the Long-term Health and Economic Effects of Antimicrobial Resistance in the United States. Dr. Okello serves as the UC Davis representative on the NIAMRRE advisory council.
