Bio Nebraska is a nonprofit trade association dedicated to supporting, promoting, and growing Nebraska’s biosciences. Bio Nebraska is the only organization in the state representing over 90 bio-related entities in the human and animal health, agriculture, and industrial biotech sectors as well as educational and research institutions and service providers.
The presentation will look at Bio Nebraska’s four focus points: Networking, Issue Advocacy, Resources; and Development and Education, particularly the Nebraska Women in STEM initiative. Bio Nebraska will also provide an overview of Nebraska’s bio-ecosystem and some of the key assets currently in the state and others in the planning and development stages.

Rob Owen
Rob Owen joined Bio Nebraska as Executive Director in 2019. Prior to Bio Nebraska, Rob was an attorney with the Dobrusin Law Firm, a strategic intellectual property law firm, where he was Of Counsel, and served as general counsel for Streck, Inc., a market leader in the medical device industry, for over 8 years. While serving as Streck’s general counsel, Rob became involved with Bio Nebraska. He was active in the organization for many years and most recently served as chairman of the board of directors.
Prior to entering the private sector, Rob held a series of advisory positions in the federal legislative and executive branches, first as Senior Counsel to U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel, then as Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, and later as Counselor with the U.S. Department of Labor. He also worked as the Director of Government Affairs for the National Association of Broadcasters.
Rob earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska. He continues to give back to the Omaha community as a volunteer and board member with the Westside High School Alumni Association and the Christ the King School Parents Club. Sasha Forsen
Sasha Forsen joined Bio Nebraska as Assistant Director in 2019. Before joining Bio Nebraska, Sasha managed communication and marketing efforts for Edeniq, a cellulosic ethanol technology company. Prior to that, she was the Public Relations Manager for Omaha-based ethanol producer Green Plains, and its adjacent businesses, for seven years where she led communication and advocacy initiatives for the company. Prior to that, Sasha worked in marketing for a community hospital and health system in Nebraska.
Throughout her career, Sasha has been a committed advocate and partner for biofuels, agricultural, and bioscience initiatives in the state of Nebraska and across the Midwest. Sasha serves on the Nebraska for Lifesaving Cure’s Women in Science Committee, as well as the advisory committee for the Million Girls Moonshot initiative in Nebraska. She recently served on the board of directors for the Earth Day Omaha Coalition, a non-profit organization that is committed to showcasing sustainable and environmental causes in the Omaha community through the annual Earth Day Omaha event. Ashenafi Beyi
Trained as a veterinarian and epidemiologist currently, Ashenafi Beyi is a PhD candidate in Veterinary Microbiology at Iowa State University. Research projects involve investigating the effects of fluoroquinolones on gut microbiota and resistomes in cattle. Ashenafi’s esearch interests include AMR, food safety, and microbiomes.
